MINDSET FOR GROWTH AND HAPPINESS

Happiness depends on one's mindset and attitude. To do anything great, one should be able to trust himself and believe in his capabilities. Success is not something that first happens, but something one creates.

Mindset played a significant
role in the evolution of human race. Early Humans lived in caves in groups. Then roamed around hunting the animals for their hunger needs. They further evolved to move as nomads in search of green pastures and water. Finally, they became settlers in places suitable to them. In this process, languages, cultures, innovations and discoveries were developed. It is not the end, it keeps changing and moving further. Mindset facilitates and accepts the changes and developments. The archaeologists discovered and proved that the early humans were capable of advanced thinking and planning. Even eighteen thousand years back, they used stone tools, agriculture practised and domesticated animals including dogs ten thousand years back and earliest signs of writing dated back to 5500 years. They were the foundation for the modern society.

Mindset is classified into Growth mindset and fixed mindset. People of Growth mindset are smarter, more intelligent and more talented through putting more initiative and effort. Fixed mindset does not believe in enhancement of intelligence through efforts. They assume that abilities and understandings are relatively fixed. The growth mindset will lead to new skills, new knowledge and new areas of expertise, while the fixed mindset will leave with the same knowledge where they started. The combination of innate ability and effort made great people like Albert Einstein and Michael Jordan more famous and successful.

Genius is defined as hardwork plus talent rather than talent alone. To quote Thomas Edison, 'Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety nine percent perspiration.'

Honey bee extracts only the nectar without disturbing flower. Mindset is to seek the essence from each flower, even if the place is filled with garbage, it does not divert its attention to the filth. But the Fly may travel over hundreds of flowers, but it focuses on tasting garbage and excrement. It ignores the fragrance of flowers, but will focus on the trash. Each species can be appreciated for its instinctive nature. Honey bee is quoted for positive mindset and fly for negative mindset.

If we would have spoken about Old Age Home in the past to the people of earlier generation , the very word would have been condemned. Now, the elders of current generation have a change in their mindset to welcome the idea of old age home, renaming it as Retirement Home with all required facilities/amenities and safety features and prefer it.

Growth mindset is to be encouraged and developed.
'Mind is a flexible mirror, adjust it to see a better world.'
