ACCIDENTAL INCIDENTS
Some happenings in one's life may be unexpected, but they would have been accepted. It may be in education, employment, housing, engagement of matrimonial partner and so on. Many gives happiness and few fall sour.
Accidental findings have become great discoveries. Sir Alexander Fleming noticed a mold on an old Petri dish which was breaking down bacteria around it. Growing the mould himself he discovered that it contained the antibiotic pencillin and history was made.
Play Doh, the sticky material was originally marketed as wall cleaner that did not work well. Kids started using it to make little sculptures and play Doh continues to become children's toy.
British pharmacist John Walker noticed a dried lump on the end of his stirring stick, while stirring his chemicals. When scrapping it off, it sparked a flame. That gave the idea of match stick.
Alfred Nobel saw his own obituary in a newspaper quoting 'Merchant of Death is no more' with a bad narration of abusive words. His brother's death was mistaken as his death and inadvertently printed the obituary in the name of Alfred Nobel. The message made Alfred Nobel to establish a Trust with huge amount and arranged to name it as Nobel Award and being given every year to the people of eminence in the world in Medicine, Science, peace and literature.
Srinivasa Ramanujan did not get great recognition till he met Ramaswamy Iyer and Ramachandra Rao of Indian Mathematical society. His meeting with Iyer was accidental, while searching for a job. Ramanujan's acquaintance with G.H.Hardy and his studies in Cambridge University made him famous and forms part of history.
Recently I read a book, 'Blind side' by Michael Lewis, where the author would introduce s Black kid named Michael Over, wandering on the roads in Memphis, USA. The kid would have been noticed by an affluent white couple, interested in sports. They took care of the black boy and nurtured him. They saw some spark in Michael Oher and made him a great football player. Many leading football clubs wanted him to play for them. Wandering kid had become a celebrity on his introduction to the sports World by the affectionate couple. Accidental meeting on the Road led to his growth and celebrity stature.
All happenings around us are not noticed. But, the conscious people never fail to look at them and gain experience and pass on the benefits to the society.
